The European Union is an area of freedom, security and justice, while respecting the fundamental rights and the different legal systems and traditions of its Member States (Article 67 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union). In particular, the AFSJ covers asylum and immigration policies, as well as the fight against crime.
