The Constitution of the Portuguese Republic enshrines rights, freedoms and guarantees (e.g. the right to equality, the preservation of the privacy of family and private life, guarantees of defence, freedom of expression and information, freedom of conscience, religion and cult, right of petition and popular action), as well as economic, social and cultural rights and duties (e.g. consumer rights, the right of private initiative and private property, the right to the environment and the quality of life).
